Off To The Drawing Board...(semi-tutorial)

I have had this project on my mind for awhile now. There was this blank spot on the wall that divides our kitchen and dining room. I always thought it needed something and once we had Bug knew what that something was. I was just waiting to find a frame for the piece. Then when we bought our hutch off CL I decided to put it along the dining room wall where a picture was hanging. The picture actually came from The Family Dollar (for $15), but you'd think it was an overly priced Home Interiors one! (I like Home Interiors, but often don't have the cash to buy their pictures)

So yesterday I ripped the picture out of there (really easy)! I had done this before with another Family Dollar picture for our LARGE wedding portrait (cheaper than buying the size frame we needed). Then I painted the frame with Rust-Oleum's Heirloom White. I want to put some antique glaze, but we didn't have any and I wasn't paying 30x the cost at the local hardware store, so that is on hold.   Sorry I don't have pictures of this... I was too excited to finally do it!

The next step was to paint the chalkboard on the wall. I marked out the inside of the frame with a pencil and painted about 1/2" outside of that line just to be sure that you couldn't see any yellow wall peep through. You don't have to make the lines perfect when you paint because it will be covered up by the frame.

The next step was to add the frame to the wall! Measure your hangers, measure your nails or in our case Hercules Hooks, and hang!

The final step is to present your masterpiece to the family! Bug LOVES it!!!! She constantly over there drawing up a storm.

What I love about it is that when I'm cooking dinner she now has something else to occupy herself with instead of doing this...

Oh what a fantastic idea - if only our landlord hadn't covered every inch of our house in the dreaded woodchip paper!
